Neurotoxin Treatments

Dynamic wrinkles are greatly reduced.

Let’s be honest, aging is an aesthetically displeasing process. Over time, wrinkles and lines can come to define your face, making you appear far older than you are or feel. Namely, lines and wrinkles that are associated with facial movements can appear permanently imprinted on your face. These wrinkles, known as dynamic wrinkles, can form across your face, from the forehead, near the eyes and mouth. While you may feel like you have to settle with dynamic wrinkles, you do not have to. A neurotoxin injection alleviates these concerns, making it possible to regain a more youthful image.

Neurotoxins are a unique injectable that stunts muscle movements that are resulting in dynamic wrinkles. Residents of Houston, TX, or surrounding communities ready to attain a more youthful appearance are encouraged to get in touch with BluVida Wellness & MedSpa. What Are Neurotoxins?

Neurotoxins, also referred to as neuromodulators, are an injectable treatment that treats lines and wrinkles associated with frequent facial movements. The injectable consists of the neurotoxin botulinum toxin type A, a purified medication derived from bacteria. When a small amount of this neurotoxin is injected into a muscle, it inhibits movement. This inhibition of movement occurs because the neurotoxin prevents nerve signals between the muscle and brain. Since the muscle is not receiving the signal to contract, the skin overlying the muscle cannot fold over, preventing the lines and wrinkles from becoming apparent. An experienced injector targets specific facial muscles during a neurotoxin injection so that the face retains expressive gestures, allowing results to appear completely natural.

What Neurotoxins Are Offered at BluVida Wellness & MedSpa?

At BluVida Wellness & MedSpa, we carry several of the most popular and viable neurotoxins in the market, including:

Botox™

Botox is among the most popular neurotoxins and is the first one to become FDA-approved. This particular injectable is ideal for treating wrinkles in the upper face region, including forehead creases, vertical lines between the eyebrows and tiny creases around the nose. Botox consists of an accessory protein and botulinum toxin type A. If the treatment is performed regularly, some patients can develop a resistance to this neurotoxin. A Botox treatment lasts for approximately 10 minutes. Results last for around four months.

Dysport®

Compared to Botox, Dysport is lighter, meaning it can cover a larger area with fewer units. Dysport can also take effect quicker than Botox, potentially making it the more preferential neurotoxin if you seek to alleviate dynamic wrinkles from your appearance just in time for a special event. Usually, results are noticeable after one to two days, with final results being attained after one week. Results last for approximately three to four months.

Xeomin®

Unlike Botox and Dysport, Xeomin is a particularly unique neurotoxin because it consists of no accessory protein. Without an accessory protein, Xeomin can be preferential for patients who seek to treat their dynamic wrinkles but have built a tolerance to other forms of neurotoxins. This neurotoxin is also beneficial for patients who have experienced allergic reactions to Botox and Dysport. Xeomin results begin to appear after four days. Results can potentially last for three to four months.

Who Makes a Good Candidate for Neurotoxins?

Neurotoxins are an ideal treatment for men and women ready to alleviate the presence of dynamic wrinkles. The treatment is also an excellent way to stave off the formation of dynamic wrinkles, meaning the treatment is suitable for both the young and old. Patients should be in good general health, mentally and physically, if they are considering the treatment. During an initial consultation with one of our experienced injectors, your concerns will be reviewed and assessed to determine if you are a suitable candidate.

Neurotoxins are not suitable for static wrinkles, which occur as the body produces less collagen, a vital protein that maintains skin firmness. Static wrinkles are best treated with dermal fillers. If your concerns are deemed static wrinkles rather than dynamic wrinkles, the appropriate treatment may be discussed.

What Happens During a Neurotoxin Treatment?

Your neurotoxin treatment will begin with your experienced injector cleansing the treatment site and identifying the best muscles for injection. They may also apply an ice pack before injecting your chosen neurotoxin to help mitigate any pain. A neurotoxin injection is a generally tolerable experience. You may experience a mild tingling sensation, but this is normal. Once your treatment site is prepped and the facial muscles have been injected, your injector will administer the neurotoxin via an ultra-fine needle.

When the neurotoxin reaches your muscle, it will bind to nerve receptors to prevent the chemical release that prompts facial movement. The muscles will not be completely paralyzed but relaxed enough so that the skin does not fold over, keeping wrinkles and lines from forming.

A neurotoxin treatment is quick. The treatment is often referred to as a ‘lunchtime procedure’ because it can be completed in less time than your lunch break at work. The treatment requires no downtime, so you will be able to return to work and other daily activities immediately afterward. You may experience redness and swelling after injection, but these are normal and tend to subside after 12 to 48 hours.
